locking table &/or cells

When creating a table with 2 cells is there a way to lock the size of a cell
so when you add text it will not automatically resize width wise. I want to
be able to lock a width size. I've tried setting pixel width but it still
moves.

No such thing in HTML. Tables/cells will always expand to fix content that doesn't wrap. Table/cell
values are minimums.
