This is a SharePoint issue, so the others who said to post there are right,

Thanks John! Wow, this seems like a major problem with the system...is
there any work towards a patch or update to correct this?

Definitely. I am involved in conversations about this, and hoping to find
some resolution with the first Service Pack.
