Jason

Extract from a previous post in this ng:

The _vti_ directories and their files are system files used by FrontPage and
work in conjunction with the server-based extensions.

They are necessary if you have extensions installed for use by your site,
and not necessary if you don't have the extensions installed for use by your
site. Any questions about whether the extensions are installed should be
directed to your hosting company technical support.

Hope this is useful.

It is the folder that contains your FrontPage Extension executables. You will note in the Internet Information Services Manager that folder is marked executable. It is physically located here:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\40\_vti_bin

I am using FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions hence the 40. If you are using FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions you will find _vti_bin under the 50 folder.

There is a 60 folder now but I don't know what that is. I think it comes from Microsoft Office 2003 and has something to do with SharePoint Services.
