Default Publish & Backup Problem

I'm using FP2000, on a WinXPHome system.

I'm trying to publish from my hosting server to my own desktop to make a
backup.

I go >Files>Publish Web, Browse to the target folder on my desktop,
(.)Publish all pages,<Publish>

I get a message that FP wants to set up the target folder as a website, I
click OK.

I get a message that the search component will not be active, and then click
continue.

I get this error message:

***
An error occurred accessing your FrontPage web files. Authors - if authoring
against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this server's site.
WebMasters - please see the server's system long for more details.
***

I click OK, and the Publish has prematurely ended. I find that the target
folder has been set up as a webpage, the sub-folders have been established,
the appropriate files have been copied into the web's main folder, but no
other files have been copied into the other folders.

Where is the "server's system log."

What is causing this?

How can I correct it?

How can I publish a backup to my desktop?

Thanks for you help.

John

This may be a security or access problem on the host.

See if you can determine where the error occurred (ie.
where you stopped receiving files) and try opening the
same file directly on the server.

Is this by any chance a very large Web site? If you, you
may be encountering some sort of timeout, and you might
have to download the site in sections.

I don't recommend using a folder on your desktop
Instead create a root level folder on your hard drive (say C:\MyWeb)
To verify FP can access it, use File Open Web and browse to C:\MyWeb
(FP will convert the folder to a FP web)
Use File Close Web and try republishing per my response below to your other post

I can edit existing pages and upload and link to new graphic files.

How can I check security and access? >Tools>Security... says I have
"administer, access and browse." I have access to the Front Page
Administrator through my remove hosting service adminstrative suite.

What is the "server's system log" mentioned in the error message? Is that
available through the

39megs, but I'm getting the error message within 30 seconds of starting to
Publish.

How can the site be downloaded in sections?

1. Open your root Web.
2. Choose Server from the Tools menu, and then Administration Home.
3. Under Server Health, click the Check Server Health link.
4. Select all the check boxes (both Detect and Repair).
5. Click OK.

This is the Windows Event log, and you probably don't have access to
it. You'd have to contact your host.

1. Select all the files in your Web's root.
2. Right-click the selection and choose Publish Selected Files.
3. Select one or more folders, then right-click the selection and
choose
Publish Selected Files.
4. Repeat step 3 until you've retrieved the entire Web site or
localized
the problem.
