Ok, I think I fixed it - not sure why - but I UNCHECKED Anonymous log in
under IIS/Default Web SErver/properties/directory security/ and then EDIT on the anonymous acces .... but then another box popped up saying that localhost and printers were under that child node or something...I went ahead and selected both of them so that they would also be associated with that .. not sure if that was right...but at least I can get into my websites right now Pam "Pam" <webweaver(removethis)@ewebexpress.com> wrote in message news:K6oAb.2321$rP6.881@newsread2.news.pas.earthlink.net... > This morning when I tried to open a site from my 'localhost' I get a box > that pops up with my username/website and wants password - not sure wht I > did to make this happen but can someone tell me how to stop this from > happening - My user acct for Windows has admin rights - does that have > anything to do with FP? any help appreciated > Pam > > |

It is because aphche servers do not allow Anonymous log
in. You might have to get another program to upload your site >-----Original Message----- >geez...I take it back that didn't work either - I can now get INTO >localhost, and the website will come up - but it is still asking for >user/password?? > > >"Pam" <webweaver(removethis)@ewebexpress.com> wrote in message >news:K6oAb.2321 $rP6.881@newsread2.news.pas.earthlink.net... >> This morning when I tried to open a site from my 'localhost' I get a box >> that pops up with my username/website and wants password - not sure wht I >> did to make this happen but can someone tell me how to stop this from >> happening - My user acct for Windows has admin rights - does that have >> anything to do with FP? any help appreciated >> Pam >> >> > > >. > |

localhost is on a "local" machine,
not a remote apache server. -- using 2k PRO but....95isalive This site is best viewed............ ........................with a computer <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:e4ae01c3bc28$8bd37270$a601280a@phx.gbl... > It is because aphche servers do not allow Anonymous log > in. I know that :-) ... so how do I get back to my original settings so that I
am not asked a username/password? What it looks like is a box that pops up with keys on it - at the top it says Connect to Pamela and then inserts automatically in the User name a 'face' and Pamela\websitename and then wants a password and when it won't take anything I put in, and I click cancel - it says I do not have permission to do this operation - ask your website admin to change your permissions and try again or log on with a user account that has perm - I'm at a loss here - please help Pam "Steve Easton" <admin@95isalive.com> wrote in message news:%23fg5YlCvDHA.1680@TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... > localhost is on a "local" machine, > not a remote apache server. > > -- > using 2k PRO but....95isalive > This site is best viewed............ > .......................with a computer > > <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:e4ae01c3bc28$8bd37270$a601280a@phx.gbl... > > It is because aphche servers do not allow Anonymous log > > in. I know you know that, I was answering anonymous.
The only thing I can think of is that your logged onto the machine as a different user / user with different permissions than the one used to create the website. -- using 2k PRO but....95isalive This site is best viewed............ ........................with a computer "Pam" <webweaver(removethis)@ewebexpress.com> wrote in message news:2VpAb.2495$rP6.2070@newsread2.news.pas.earthlink.net... > I know that :-) ... so how do I get back to my original settings so that I > am not asked a username/password? Ok, I went into Server Extensions Administrator and looked at my user name-
right click on it, clicked All Task, Check Server Extensions and it pops up with "The server administration programs and the server extensions on the web server are not compatible. The administration program is too old to use with this server." I click ok and then it says: CHECK WEB / checking web http:// Check Log: No problems found Under my User name is a folder called /lm/w3svc/1: - I did the same check here and it says the same thing. Now what?? I'd sure appreciate some help Pam "Pam" <webweaver(removethis)@ewebexpress.com> wrote in message news:K6oAb.2321$rP6.881@newsread2.news.pas.earthlink.net...
