Hi, i have an Athlon 64 3000+ newcastle socket 754 2.0Ghz. Before i overclocked it, the temp was about 45-47C, now i overclocked it to 2.2Ghz and the temp is 50c idle and 56C full usage. Is this normal? or do i need a better cooling system? thanks.

overclocking generates more heat, with temperatures that high i would think about getting an aftermarket cooler

I'm out of bed and dressed, what more do you want?

I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out

One more step to enlightenment ... but which way ?

Look on the bright side - my standard 2500+ was running at 74 degrees without any problems!

Must confess, during the warmer months we've had lately, coupla my systems have been running at CPU temps nudging 60C with no degradation to performance (on full load).

Thinking about it, 56C is really nothing to worry about if the system is behaving itself.

I've always maintained that an ideal CPU temperature is anything 50C or less but today's CPU's seem to be able to run hotter than them old Athlons for sure.

So, you could lay out on some better cooling, or accept the extra heat as a price paid for overclocking. Like I said, if it runs ok, you is doing ok

And Mucks, maybe this guy don't like Intel, and Intel speeds ain't for real anyway, as we all know, when other factors Intel/AMD are taken into consideration.

Me still running 2.2 XP3200 at 2.4 with CPU temp of 46C (average).

well, now i got some Arctic Silver 5 to replace my stock thermal pad and my CPU temp dropped 10 Degree C idle and full usage.

ALSO... my athlon 64 3000+ is now Oc'ed to 2.32 Ghz...and my RAM turns into PC3700 instead of PC3200; CPU is running at HTT 232Mhz and RAM also runs at 231 Mhz instead of the stock 200Mhz, is this normal, if so, will there be any damages to the RAM?
