I had Telstab.exe in my startup and my firewall kept
saying that it was trying to get out. Any ideas what
this is? It's removed from startup now and access blocked
in my firewall and notice no difference at the moment...

Also, ISTSvc in Add/Remove Programs was new to me and not
sure where it came from. Spyware? Any help would be
appreciated.

Hi There:

Telstab.exe I'm not sure about, Hopefully its a harmless
file but There is some Viruses that have come out which
lets the attacker choose any filename, the newest one i
know of is Backdoor.Omerta which gives control to a
remote user and lets them carry out various tasks such as
keylogging,Deleting files,Disabling keyboard & mouse
etc.. Its unlikely you have this as the side effects
would probably be obvious but the telstab file should at
least be scanned for malware.

Goto Jordi's site and upload the file.

http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Once the site opens press browse and find the telstab.exe
file or any other telstab files which exist then press
Submit - It displays the results fast and uses 13
different virus scanners to check the file.

ISTSvc mean's you have ISTBAR :

First use this fixtool from Symantec :

http://securityresponse.symantec.com...r/FxIstbar.exe

Download it to your desktop and reboot into safe mode
(reboot and keep tapping F8 then choose sfae mode)

double click the fix tool to start the istbar remover.

also run MS Antispy while in safe mode

To check for this manually try this:

Check your Add/Remove Programs for

MS AUpdate
MS Updates
ISTbar

Any remove if found

Open c/drive then Program files and check for a folder
called ISTBar if you find it Un-register the.dll as
explained below then remove the folder

Also check for any of these folders and remove if found

SideFind
YourSiteBar
ISTsvc

If you find the folder reboot into safe mode(reboot and
keep tapping F8 then choose safe mode from the list)

In safe mode:

Open a command prompt (Start >Run > and type cmd > then
paste this in and press enter :

cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\ISTbar\istbar.dll"

Remove any folders found,

Ccleaner is a usefull program to use for cleaning up.(It
removes all temp/unused files & scans for registry
errors) Use it on all 3 settings windows, applications &
issues .
