I get this error when trying to connect a firewire hard
disk to my PC. A firewire video camera works just fine. I
recall that there's a registry entry that sorts this out -
but, basically, the firewire card isn't being assigned an
IP address (which this thing needs, it seems) and every
time I try to repair it, I get the message in the title.

Help!!!

Has anyone figured this out? I also have a firewire maxtor external
HD, and I'm running windows XP SP2. I can't get my system to recognize
the HD. Firewire is working fine, but I get an error when I try to
repair the connection "TCP/IP is not enabled for this connection". The
problem is that it is enabled for the firewire connection.

I've also ruled out the firewall.

Firewire has various usuage. One is to also create a Firewire IP network.
You could take a look in Network Connections and da-activate the 1394 Net
Adapter.
