I have a Windows 2000 server ( SP3) running in application terminal server
mode. I am having very frequent failures of the system state backup.

If I run NTBackup, the system state backup completes with skipped files and
the following error in the logs:
Error: You do not have permission to access portions of System
State\Registry\software.
Please see the owner or administrator to get permission.
Warning: Unable to open the file \Registry\software - skipped

I do not believe that it is a permissions issue because at times, I can run
this backup successfully. I am an administrator of the server and as far as
I know there have not been any permission changes.

When I run my Veritas Backup Exec (ver 8.6) backup, I also get a system
state backup error.
Unable to open the item Registry\software - skipped.
An error occurred retrieving System State files.
The System State file could not be backed up.

About 1 out of 5 times, I get either backup type to succeed. This server
reboots every week and I have not applied any patches recently.

Does anyone have any insight in to what might be causing the
Registry\software backup to fail?

I'm running into this on a german W2K terminal server. Newest patches
and service packs apllied.
Is there any possible solution yet?
