When I click on the shortcut to System Restore is get an error stating that
"The procedure entry point RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not
be3 located in the dynamic link library WINSTA.dll. I looked, and this file
is present in the System32 folder. The system restore tab is missing from
the system properties in control panel.

I recently had to reinstall XP pro to reestablish the search utility because
it was missing a file. My guess is this reinstall has somehow confused the
OS. How can I get this staightened out? Thanks. Doug

Doug,

1. Insert the Windows XP CD
2. Click [Start] [Run]
3. Type the following command and press Enter
"rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf"

System Restore core files should be reinstalled.

Alternately, you may also open Windows Explorer, navigate to "C:\Windows\Inf" folder and right-click sr.inf (choose Install)
