somebody told me that I should use the Online Symantec virus check rather
than Norton Anti-virus software.

i have Hacktool.Flooder virus infection and am unable to fix it with Norton
Anti-virus, Will the online Symantec virus check fix this. I have the
updated virus definitions already installed. any advise appreciated

Did you follow Symantec's advice to simply delete the files in Safe
mode?
