OK, on another sheet I have 20,900 lines of items I have sold to these
customers.
I have the cust name in column A, the date as listed in row 2 is in column
E, and the number of pcs sold is in column C. I want to get the total amount
sold to each cust during each month. Any help would be great.

The easiest way to do it is to use a pivot table.

I'm not sure on the date format, is it month/year or day month?

Is the date a hard coded 1 / 0 6 or is it just formated to show the date
that way?

You can use the sum if but the pivot will do it all for you and you don't
need to worry about missing names.
