stop automatic update links in PowerPoint 2007

Hello,

I have a PowerPoint presentation (.pptx) with links to Excel charts. When I
open the presentation, I receive the Security Notice pop-up asking if I want
to update links. The problem is that it opens the Excel file to update the
links even if I click "Cancel" to not update links.

The links are set to update automatically, but this problem doesn't occur
when I open PowerPoint 2003 presentations with links set to update
automatically.

Is the only solution setting links to update manually?
