I use an HP Kayak XU800 running Windows 2000 Professional + SP4 for
Photographic work and twice recently after installing a Rollup Update,
Windows failed to start.

Stop: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0x804A1A51, 0x00000000, 0x000000B0)

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Address 804A1A51 base at 80400000, DateStamp 427b58bb-ntoskrnl.exe

On both occasions I had to install a new copy of the OS, trying to use
Safe-Mode to remove the offending file "ntoskrnl.exe" resulted in the "Stop"
above.

At this time I am relying on Norton Internet Security 2005 without any
Windows Updates as I cannot afford the costs of another downtime, how can I
safely use "Windows Update" avoiding the above problems?

Many thanks for help given, David F.
