I got a Steam account.

I can connect to Steam.

I have HL Generation a 4 disk box set.

I put in disk 1 thats the HL disk.

It asked me to put in the code, I did and then I was diverted to Steam.

Steam seemed to think the code was ok.

Then it showed me a list of games I could load.

Which of the above are SINGLE PLAYER games ?

I downloaded the games and they seem to be installed.

I click on LAUNCH for Blue Shift.

The screen changes to the HL opening graphic and then it disapears and I am back on the desktop with the Steam window showing.

It does the same for HL.

What on earth is going on ?

Of the games greyed out, I don't know what Ricochet is and the only game that isn't multiplayer is Opposing Force.

I recently got Half Life; Blue Shift and Opposing Force on one DVD from PC World for a fiver and they had been modified to work with Steam.

As Steam wasn't concieved when those games were originally published.

The only annoying thing is that no mods/maps/extra games will work with these versions, such as the three 'They Hunger' games

Are your games the originals? As they were not really designed to work with Steam as far as I know.

Ta at least I know which are single player now.

The 4 disk set is original made by Sierra.
I don't see why Steam let me download the games if they won't let me play em ? I'll just play from the disks then. Only reason I tried Steam was I thought they may have some recent patches.

Ha ha Blue Shift installed and playing. Easy peasy , I thought you had to have HL installed but it is a stand alone game.

Alright, I'm going to have a moan about Steam

I just logged into Steam to play Left4Dead and noticed they had 2 racing games - Monster Trucks Nitro and Trials 2 in a weekend offer package for £3.45.

For that price I thought they'd be worth a gamble so set out to purchase.

Entered all my details and the stupid checkout keeps asking me to select an American State. Excuse me stupid Mr Steam, I am a UK citizen and you've even offered the package to me in pounds sterling.

They are sooooooooooooooo stoopid

The offer ran out at midnight, so I guess it's my loss and also Steam's loss.

I have created a support account and e-mailed them about the problem but I'm not holding my bereath for a reply.

You see, I'm not kissing Steam's nether regions, I tell it like it is

That's the first time I've tried to make a digital purchase from Steam, therefore I don't hold out high hopes about being able to buy Evolution-GTR online

I'm going to see if I can use that HL2 on Steam tomorrow.

Do I load the game from the discs ? Will they show up in the Steam folder in "programs" if I do ?

Yes, you do load HL2 from the discs.

Assuming you're online Steam will do it's stuff and register and update the game and offer you any available extras.

All my Steam games have been loaded from Disc, I can see why now, lol, online they don't seem to want to take my money

All my Steam games show in the Start menu, I've also added them to the Quick Launch feature.
