Running a P2P network with a Linksys router. Would like to setup all wired
systems with static IP addresses DHCP for my wireless connections. On the
W98 machines (3) I have no problems. But on my W2K and XP systems I set them
with static IP's and everything works as before except I can't get on to the
internet on the W2K or XP machines!!

I get an error message Cannot find server or DNS error internet explorer"

When I made these changes I didn't put any entries in the DNS server address
fields.

Any help would be appreciated.

Run ipconfig /all to make sure that you have a default gateway configured for
those computers. That IP address should be the lan IP address of the router -
probably 192.168.1.1. That may be all you have to do if the router acts as a dns
proxy. Otherwise you will need to add the IP addresses of the ISP dns servers to
those computers. 207.46.245.22 is an Ip address for Microsoft.com. If you enter
that in the Internet Explorer address bar on one of those computers and it
works, then you need to configure dns preferred servers. If it does not work,
you probably have a problem with no or incorrectly configured default gateway or
other connectivity/configuration problem. --- Steve
