When W2K starts up, it will go through the normal steps up
to the point where it starts to load my desktop. It then
reboots and continues this process indifinitely. I've
tried safe mode and have the safe thing occur. The system
worked fined last PM but now won't startup. Not sure if
I've got a worm or what. Any information or help would be
greatly appreciated.

We are getting the same thing. It started with one
machine. The machine did this for 15 minutes and then
finally booted. We thought the hard drive was failing and
we ordered a new machine which is on its way. But
eventually the machine did boot.

It finally would not boot and just kept cycling. There is
an error message which displays for less than a second.
None of us can ever read any of it but the
word "corrupted" is in there somewhere.

We finally took out the hard drive and placed it in
another machine which was not being used as the second
drive (not the boot drive). This was so we could access
the files of the older machine. Yes, they are backed up
but we wanted to still work on the old hard drive. We
simply thought some part of the boot sectors was corrupted.

Within hours, the second machine seized during the loading
of a program. When we rebooted the machine, the same
cycling started. It would try to boot and just as soon as
it looked as if it would go to the desktop, that same
message would flash quickly and it starts the boot process
all over again.

This leads me to think that it is a virus of some sort.

Of course, Windows is simply one huge virus -- so it could
simply be a problem with Windows 2000.
