I'm in exactly the same boat, after following the instructions of Jim Byrd
to edit the registry . I edited the same registry line, and the same thing
happened to me. In order to re-edit the registry, I had to go in through a
DOS prompt and ran regedit. Set default values to blank, but I'm still
having problems. When I Start, Run, I get a message that says
"Problem with shortcut. This Internet shortcut cannot be opened
because failed to run."
Yes, there is a space between "because" and "failed" There is nothing in
the popup box. to say what. I also have a problem on boot up, with a
Synchronization problem as well as my Nvidia card control panel. I also
screwed up IE and OE too, but I think I got them repaired. Had to reinstall
I also cannot run most of my control panel applets. Message comes up saying
"Cannot find the file 'rundll32.exe (or one of its components).
Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries
are available."
The rundll32.exe file is in Winnt/System32/ I even extracted a fresh
version. I don't believe it is a virus. I run PC-cillin 2003 and its up to
date. I also run SpyBot, Spyware Blaster, Ad-aware. I cleaned the registry
with UltraWin Cleaner 2002 and EasyClean from Toni Arts. I even tried
reinstalling Win2kPro overtop, and no luck.
Still no luck. Man, why did I screw around!! HELP!!!
