Since my last spyware definitions update, the spyware icon
that usually shows up in the task bar is now missing.
What's up?

Open up control panel and double-click on add/remove
programs.
Select Microsoft AntiSpyware
Select "Change"
On the Microsoft AntiSpyware Maintenance Wizard, click
next.
On the next screen (Microsoft AntiSpyware Maintenance
Wizard) select Update Microsoft AntiSpyware and click next.
Select Install
Let the product update.
Click Finish.

Options > Settings > General (icon) > check/uncheck >
Hide MS anti-spyware icon in the system tray.

I'm actually experiencing the same problem...
I just switched from using the KERIO firewall to ZONE
ALARM.
Problem is the product installs well but once it starts,
it disapears from the Tray (bottom right part of the
screen). I check to see if it's running but it is not
displayed in the tray at all. I've tried everything but
just can't get it to display. Remember....It worked with
KERIO but not with ZONEALARM!?

This is possibly an instance of the long-standing Windows XP bug whereby
icons in the Notification Area (formerly known as System Tray) can
disappear, even when configured to display at all times.

A work-around is to Log Off, then Log In again: the missing items will
re-appear. But next time you Restart, they will be gone again.

An example of the same XP bug as that I have just referred to in a reply to
the original poster.
