Not sure of this is the most appropriate forum, but it is the closest I
could find in the MS list.

With that said... 2 nights ago my internet speeds took a compete dive on
one of the workstations... just one though, not all of them. They are all
using the same linksys router.
I did not install any software or make any configuration changes that I know
of. I DID have company in town, so it is possible that they installed some
ActiveX junk or something, but I don't think so.

What I can't figure out is WHAT could cause the speed to go down on computer
A and not on computer B? I did a tracert and then checked the ping response
times to the ISPs gateways, etc... everything seems fine. It would appear
that there was a change made to computer A or some kind of rogue service
running.

What I would like to know is what I should do? What I should check for?
The only thing that I can think of is that I installed an application called
Dr. TCP to attempt to resolve some replay TV streaming issues, but that was
a week ago, these changes just popped up 2 nights ago.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks,
Steve

have you scanned for viruses and spyware? the programs i like for spyware
detection/removal/preemption are "spybot search & destroy" and "spyware
blaster," which can both be downloaded from download.com. the reason i like
spybot better than ad-aware, is that the free version of spybot's license
allows for corporate installations, the free version of ad-aware does not.
spyware blaster is a program that will run resident on your machine and
prevent spyware from being installed in the first place. also, if you have
any spyware search bars installed, i recommend "cool web shredder" - this
cannot be found on download.com, but just do a google search for it. this
will remove just about any spyware search bar.

Thanks for the reply and info Dan.

I have checked for spyware. I have PC-Cillin up and running and it has
current definitions
I don't have have of that search bar crap except for the google
toolbar(which is great)
so none of the usual suspects... this is a sneaky one, if it is anything at
all.

Thanks again!

Dr TCP is a GUI for changing various TCP/IP registry parameters. Suggest
you run regedit and compare entries in a fast machine with those in the
problem machine under this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

I'll do that, it's a good idea. There are a lot of parameters to go
through!

If I wanted to revert to defaults, what would I need to do? I tried
uninstalling TCP/IP but it's grayed out. Maybe if I login in safe mode I
would be able to do that?

Thanks for the suggestion, I will look into that when I get home!

That was it. I went digging around int he registry and found that value
that Dr. TCP had changed, I then googled and found the default values and
reverted them back and everything is fine! Thanks for the tip.
