Does anyone out there know how to extend the recording
time available to Sound Recorder when using the mike? At
the moment I'm allowed 60 seconds. I'd like to be able to
do voice recordings of unlimited length.

You cause Audacity, a free audio editor. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
you can also use CDex, a free audio converter and ripper.
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
