When I bring up a sound clip to hear the music I get nothing. What am I
doing wrong?

Are you listening for it in edit view or in show view?

Does the sound play in the MCI player?

What version of PowerPoint?

How are you inserting it?

On Office Online (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx), you're
changing the "search" box to "clipart and media," right? Sounds (no pun
intended) as if you're not even getting to the point where you've inserted
the sound into PPT.

Are your speakers turned on?

If it's any consolation, I just tried listening to a clip on Office Online
via its properties window, and I can't hear anything there, either. But if I
insert the file onto my slide, I can hear it when I view the slide show.

Have you downloaded the sound from the Web site or are you trying to play
it on the Web site?

Speakers are on. Why can't we hear the sounds under Properties? I just
inserted a sound clip and I can hear it. I want to preview what I hear
before I insert them.

I agree that we should be able to hear the sound previews online, and I
don't know why we cannot. I used the "contact us" link at the bottom of one
of the Office Online pages and emailed them with a complaint about it. Maybe
if MS gets enough complaints, they'll do something about it.

FWIW, if I use the clip art task pane in PPT to search online clips, I can
actually hit the properties option (the arrow that pops up on the right side
of the clip when I hover over it with my mouse) on the clip in the taskpane
and hear the preview. So maybe instead of going to Office Online directly,
just search for online sounds using the clip art taskpane. Put Sound in the
"search for" box, and click the dropdown arrow in the "search in" box to
choose "web collections," which will search for sounds online. You can also
use the pulldown to specify sounds only in the "results should be" box in
the taskpane.

Yes, I can preview the sound in the PPT clip art task pane too. Still not
able to preview sounds online. Glad you emailed MS. Thanks for your help.

I have started my own thread and read 3 other threads on this topic that have
been posted since 6/05. Prior top 6/05, you could hear the sound previews.
Microsoft seems to be ignoring the posts on thee issues because the sound
previews still don't work. Perhaps if we unite in one big singl message
thread, someone will notice that there is an issue.

I'm very happy to report that the sound preview problem on Office Online has
now been fixed. We can once again preview online sound clips (before
downloading).

Sorry it took so long!
