My media player wont play sound, it first says:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there
is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a
sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use
by another program, or it may not be functioning properly.

It gives further info:

0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there
is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card
or sound controller. You may encounter this error message
for one of the following reasons:

Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit
other programs that may be using your sound device, and
then try to play the file again.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. To
troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in
Windows Help or refer to your sound device's
documentation.
You do not have a sound device installed on your
computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play
the file again.
Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000

It was functioning properly until I installed my
Microsoft PCI Adapter. I was told that the problem was
the fact that my sound card was sharing the same IRQ port
as my Network Adapter. I switched their positioning and
now my sound card is on its own IRQ Port while the
Network adapter is sharing one IRQ port with my video
card and the USB Host Controller.

What else can I do to fix this problem, since in the
Device Manager, under the Sound Card properties, it says
that the "Device has been loaded, but has not been
started". How can I get the pc to recognize my
downloaded drivers. I even downloaded the drivers off of
MS.com updating my Creative Technologies SB16 PCI sound
card?!

Thanks a million for reading this and responding!
Stephanie

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

The only drivers you should have downloaded are those from Creative. Not
Microsoft.

One thing to try is to boot into Safe Mode, open Device Manger, remove ALL
sound drivers, reboot and see if Windows can find them and install the
correct drivers.

>Hi, I had the same problem. Check that the sound card is

sitting in the PCI slot correctly. Move sound card to
another PCI slot. Make sure you have loaded the S/W for
the sound card! Also go to XP s/w and load driver for Med
plyer. I found that I had failed to load driver. Once
that was installed all worked.Best of luck.
