Sony Vaio won't recognize Canon DV thru Firewire

HI, I have a Canon 2R70 MC DV Camcorder and I'm trying to hook it up through firewire to my Sony Vaio
I use Dv Gate Plus program on the Vaio to capture video . I was able to get it to work the first time I used it and I captured video but every time since then, I get the message, "cannot detect iLink cable " . I thought maybe the cable went bad so I bought a new one and I still get the same message
My camcorder is on and in VCR mode and it still doesn't recognise it
