snap-in failed to initialize Indexing service

why is this happening I am using instant search, and it just stopped working
(office 2007: Outlook)

You may need to rebuild your search index. Control
Panel->Indexing->Advanced (doing this from an Office 2003 computer so I may
have missed a step or 2.)
