When I turn on my computer it begins to boot up for 10-15 seconds and then it
just hibernates for 4-5 minutes and the screen is black. After that, it
kicks into gear and goes through the normal booting up process. Any idea why
there is this delay? I'd love to get rid of it.

I have Windows XP home edition.

Go to Start > Run type in the "msconfig" without quotes, choose the startup
tab, and uncheck any unnecessary programs that might be starting up with the
operating system.

If the problem persist, restart in safe mode, disable the screensaver and
defrag the disk. Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools.
