Slow XP performance only when accessing server

My office has Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000, and Windows XP
clients on a Windows 2000 server. When our XP machines
interact with the file server the response time crawls.
The other machines' response times are fine. We are all
on a domain but we do not use Active Directory. (We are
not part of a workgroup either.) Someone told me that
there is a patch available to fix this problem, but I have
not been able to find it in the knowledge base. Does
anyone know where it is, if it exists? Thanks!

Carol,
Having been plagued by this same problem, I did a lot of looking around here, and found
the answer - hope this works for you !
