I used a third party software to expand the partition of my C drive (Windows
XP Pro). It was successful. But after that Windows takes a long time to be
fully loaded on every reboot. Also, the Windows Start sound is disrupted and
not as smooth as before.

I went to delete some of the start up programs, but still it did not help.

Anyone has a solution to this? Many thanks.

Expanding a partition does not cause such issues. Check to see if there are
any bad sectors on the disk or if the file system is corrupted. do a chkdsk
/r on the HD. If this takes a long time then you have bad sectors and the HD
will need to be replaced at sometime as to not lose your any data.

Is your system free from error?

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for
Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any more than 48
hours ago.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Event ID: 7023 -sugested solution
http://www.winhelponline.com/article...l-service.html

Event ID: 0
Event Source: matlabserver

Select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and right
click on matlabserver and select Properties, Dependencies tab. Post
details of the Services listed in each of the two boxes.

It is possible that matlabserver will not be listed as a Service. If
this is the case I will have to think again.

Event ID: 0
Event Source: VMCService
VMCService =Vodafone Mobile Connect Service
Do you have a Vodaphone mobile?

Select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and right
click on VMCService and select Properties, Dependencies tab. Post
details of the Services listed in each of the two boxes.

Hi! Gerry:

Thanks again for your effort.

1. Event ID: 7023 is intermittant. After another shutdwon and reboot, it
goes away.

2. Event Source: matlabserver. Under Dependencies, both boxes are empty.
Anyway, I "started" the service.

3. Event Source: VMCService. Under Dependencies,:

first box: " Windows Management Instrumentation/Remote Procedure Call (PRC)"
second box: empty
