Hi Dria,
Because you said the sims didn't crash when you bypassed the video try
installing 327979: Recommended Update from the Windows Update site at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
This patch installs the Indeo codec on your computer, if the games are
trying to use it for their intro videos and you do not have it that may
cause a hang or drop back to the desktop. Also are you attempting to play
the games with a limited or administrator user?
