Shutdown problems

A peculiar set of problems has asisen with use of my win 2k
professional OS, which I think can be attributed to
registry issues.

Shutdown attempts end up in a Blue Screen of death, with
the message stop 0x000001e (0x6000000047 blah blah blah)
kmode_exception not handled, beginning dump of physical
memory. This only occurs after running freason, a
synthesizer/sequercer music application. I'm forced into a
reboot after the memory is dumped, and then it will shut
down fine.

There are also quirky Explorer process type behaviors, such
as sporadically hanging for 15 seconds before responding to
requests such as Open, or Save as.
