This may sound a bit too easy, but you mentioned BIOS.
did you flash to the latest version?

Also make sure your bios settings are correct

Hi Ricky,

Yes - did that. Funny thing - on the other identical unit,
I didn't have to flash. The Compaq website was my first
stop.
