How show footnote content when put cursor on footnote no. in text

I have latest Word version. Until recently, when I put the cursor on a
footnote number in the text, the content of the footnote opened in a box near
the cursor. All of a sudden, this feature stopped working. Now I have to
double click the number and go to the footnote area to read the content and
then double click to go back to where I started. How can I get back the old
functionality?

In Office Button > Word Options > Display, see whether the third box
(Show document tooltips) is checked.

Do you still have ScreenTips checked on the View tab of Tools | Options?
