using XP Pro- is ther a way to put favorite web sites on
the desktop, instead of going to favorites and finding my
fav there. ( need less clicks )
also i have heard that i can also make a separate
taskbar on the top or side and have my fav. web sites
there.
is ther such a animal!! (sorry been a long week)

Right click the taskbar and select Toolbars> New Toolbar. Use the controls
on the next screen to go to Documents and Settings\<your account> and
select the Favorites folder. Click OK.

At this point the toolbar is on the taskbar. If you want it there, you're
done. If you want to move it:
Unlock the taskbar. You will see a dotted line on the left most part of the
toolbar. Grab it with your mouse. Drag to the very edge of your monitor
(side or top) and drop the toolbar. It will change shape and look very much
like a second taskbar. Right click on the toolbar and choose the settings
that you prefer: text, no text, autohide, large/small icons, etc.

If you ever want to remove the toolbar, right click on the title bar area
and select Close Toolbar. For the are you sure prompt, click OK.

web site in the task bar. and i go to open another from
the same taskbar.. it opens up from that same one that i
had original opened,
so is ther a way to keep the first web site open and
open another? like having more then one opened at one

Change your Internet Explorer settings:
Internet Options> Advanced> Uncheck the box next to "Reuse windows for
launching shortcuts"

Hi, Dave! Am glad to hear that you got this setup and working the way that
you want it.

It sounds like your friend was using one of the notepad replacements.
Here's URLs for a few of them. Maybe you'll recognize the one your friend
has from the screenshots:
