i have a strange problem on my WIN2K SP4 system -- the shift key is
not recognized, but the caps key is. this happens with any keyboard i
connect to the system.

what could be causing this [Q] [can't type a question mark, or any of
the symbols above the numer keys]

Check the StickyKeys state in Accessibility Options.
