Sharing files on two PCs through crossover cable

I'm trying to connect 2 computers but had no luck. I'm using Win2k Pro on
first computer and WinXP on the second. Both computers have NIC cards. I
want to connect them through crossover cable CAT.5e just to transfer files.
Can anyone direct me to a guide that addresses this question or walk me
through the procedure if it's not too complicated? I've found some guides
already but it's sometimes hard to understand them since they address only
one version of Windows (and I have two to configure).
Is there a software that can do this for me through a Wizard of some kind?
Thanks.

I've only ever networked 2 x pc's running xp, but if you run the network
wizard on xp, you can make a netsetup.exe floppy to configure another type
of windows.
Hope this helps, Paul.

Thanks. I will try that out. Could you explain what I need to configure and
how?
If anyone has any more ideas, please let me know.

Just what he says, run netsetup.exe and follow the directions.

This is gotta one of the most common/basic tasks of networking and
info abound on the net. Nobody is goina to regurgitate for u
blow-by-blow when all that info is out there. Too boring mind u.
