Share Files or Printers From Domain Computer to Workgroup Computer

I have a domain setup. Some of the computers have xp professional, so
they can access the domain. The other computers have xp home, so they
access the server files by joining a workgroup with the same name as
the domain. This has worked well for almost two years. There is a
local printer installed on one of the domain computers. The other
domain computers can see that shared printer and can print to it.
However, when the workgroup computers try to connect to the computer
by clicking on Network Places: workgroup computers, they are prompted
for a password. I have tried every password that I know of and can't
get access.

How can I share a printer installed on a domain computer with the
workgroup computers? I want them to be able to use the shared printer
as they would a shared printer on a workgroup computer.

I do not want to run a network cable to the printer and set it up as a
network computer. It is just a local inkjet.

Thank you very much.

To use a domain resource from a workgroup computer, you have to have a local
account / password setup on the domain computer, activated for network access.
Look at the domain computer with the printer. Does it have an activated local
account?

How is the access permission for the printer setup?

I still have not gotten it to work.

All of the workgroup computers have drives on the server computer
mapped as network drives. When they click on those network drives, it
asks them to log into the server. However, I do not want the
workgroup computers to be asked to login to access this local computer
where the printer is. The domain computers are able to add the shared
printer to their list of printers. They don't have to log into the
domain computer with the printer.

Is there a way for the workgroup computers to accses the domain
computer's local printer without having to log into that computer
everytime?

XP Pro will cache credentials, but XP Home will NOT. With XP Home, you will
have to login each time. Sorry.

The domain computers are running XP Pro, and have cached credentials, and domain
authentication. That's one of the advantages of having a domain.

To enjoy a domain to the fullest, you have to get rid of XP Home.

Chuck nailed it re. the problem of XP HOMEs inability to cache credentials.
I have various clients with this issue. One solution is to run a batch file
in startup to connect to the printer. Note that username and password below
is that of the machine hosting the printer so there could be a security
concern with this solution.

net use \\sidecomputer\LJ1300 /USER:username password
