Will Windows 200 AD support a domain controller server name that has an
underscore.?

ie. srvr_02 vs srvr02

I have successfully installed the server as a domain controller, but I'm
having problems with the DNS and replication.

Could very well be the problem, If you have other DCs I suggest you demote
the server with the underscore rename it and promote it again, without an
underscore.
