"Save as" error

Whenever I try to use save as in excel (or word), or try to save a file in a
different folder, I get the following message:
the folder U:\path\filename.xls isn't accessible. The folder may be located
on an unavailable volume or protected with a password.
Saving a file isn't a problem if I'm not changing the location or name of
the file.
