restored NTloader and now applications wont run

after having a problem where the machine would not boot up, the onscreen
message was unable to find NTLoader , so i Googled it and didusing the
recovery console i restored the two files required to boot again...

the machine now boots fine but if you try and run any of the installed
applications, like office ect, xp seams to want to run the install again and
comes up with a message abou tthe directory path being too long?

any ideas?
