Hello !

Can anyone point me to a newsletter which will send updates as new viruses
emerge and details on how to disinfect them? The Symantec newsletter arrives
every month but I feel that's too infrequent!

Can you not set your anti-virus program to update list at regular intervals
i.e. weekly or daily rather than relying on newsletters.

The Sophos one used to be pretty good - it's been a while since I
was subscribed. If you want others (there are several), try asking
in alt.comp.anti-virus.

http://pandasoftware.com/register.as...se&Lst_8=false

is the URL to sign up for virus alerts and the daily Oxygen 3 security
newsletter from PandaSoftware.com.

Panda's emails also notify recipients about 24 hours in advance of Windows
updates.

Since you mentioned Norton, have you looked at DeepSight Analyzer,
their product for tracking and reporting incidents (infections,
intrusions, etc.)?

As for daily(?) updates, be careful what you wish for. I've seen a
number of roughly weekly bulletins as well as as-needed alerts. You
were not very clear on what sort of information you were seeking, but
try signing up for several antivirus vendor bulletins.

Here are some ideas to get you started.

Take a look at www.securityfocus.com (home of bugtraq) for roughly 30
mailing lists and archives.

Security Newsgroups
-------------------
(select list)

alt.security: computer security issues as well as other security
issues, such as car locks and alarm systems

comp.risks: moderated forum on the risks to the public in computers
and related systems

comp.security.announce: computer security announcements, including new
CERT advisories, summaries, and vendor-initated bulletins

comp.security.misc: a variety of issues related to computer and
network security

comp.security.unix: security information related to the UNIX operating
system

comp.virus: computer viruses and related topics

ftp://ftp.infospace.com/pub/virus-l/
archive of moderated mailing list Virus-L with, what else, a focus on
computer virus issues.

In biblaf$3tp$(E-Mail Removed), this is what
(E-Mail Removed) had to say :

Symantec Security Response newletter is ent out once a month. What I'm
looking for is something to tell me about a new threat ASAP and details like
how it spreads and how to protect my PC....

I do kepp my Virus defs updated and check evry 2-3 days.

I've currently joined a YahooGroup that supposedly will send out updates to
its memebers as and when info is available. Let's see how that goes for a
month or two. Then I'll update this thread!

Thanks to all who replied.

And here is another approach: live virus information feeds from Trend,
Symmantec, and Panda.
