When I want to remove my firewire drive using the remove
utility in the system tray, it tells me the drive is still
being accessed and I must wait. Sometimes this wait can be
several minutes. Is there a way to speed this up?

Thanks in advance,

Dean Parker

Try this

Right click on My Computer, left click on properties, left click on Hardware
tab, left click on Device Manager. When window populates, click on the +
next to Disk drives. Right click on the Firewire drive that should be
listed there. Left click on Properties, left click on Policies tab. Turn
off the check mark in Enable write caching on the disk. This will slow the
drive down some but it will immediately write all information to the disk
drive and not cache any in the computer. The delay you are experiencing is
probably related to the cache being flushed before shutdown is allowed.
