I have a client that runs win 2000 Server with terminal
server. People using 9X or win 2000 pro have no prob
connecting remotely to the server. Apparently they like
to work from home. Here's the pain. They issued several
ranking persons in the company laptops using XP Pro. When
they try to access the server they get an error. I also
use XP Pro on a laptop and tried to connect via remote...
no dice. However; my boss uses XP Pro and he has no
problem getting into their server remotely. I checked the
settings on his laptop and compared them to mine. All
appears to be the same. If anybody has a solution please
feel free to email me. I am at the end of my rope. The
error is as follows

" Remote Desktop Disconnected The client could not
establish a connection to the remote computer. The most
likely causes for this error are:
1) Remote connections might not be enabled
at the remote computer
2) The Maximum # of connections was exceeded
at the remote computer
3) A network error occurred while
establishing the connection

Does it work if you directly enter the IP address of server or same error?

Same error. We use the IP address's per clients request.

Is there any router/firewall in between that might be preventing connection?
is there a ipsec policy on the Windows 2000 server? since you mention that
your boss can connection, I assume Terminal Services is running.

Is terminal services set up in remote administration mode, or Terminal
Server mode?

Any chance your boss has administrator level credentials and you don't?

I have been having the same problem w/ my laptop running XP. I am able
to get to some servers but, others I can not. Several of my co-workers
can get the the server that I am unable to get to and they have the
same laptop and XP. I tried loading the version of remote desktop that
comes w/ server 2003 but, then I started getting liscence errors.

"The terminal server cannont issue a client license.

You'd be better off in a group related to terminal services:

microsoft.public.windows.terminal_services

for example.
