Remote desktop connection - slow response

Hi,
We're experiencing a problem and I'm wondering if anyone else has seen the
same thing. We're connecting to two XP machines using RDC from Win2k
machines. This is all on the same network (no router, VPN, etc.).
Initially performance is great. However, if we disconnect and reconnect in
the morning, the performance is so slow it's unusable. However, if we then
go over to the XP machines and log in locally, performance is instantly back
to normal - even when connecting remotely. We really need to be able to
connect, start a long running process, disconnect, and reconnect later
(perhaps the next day) to review the results. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Scott Parmelee

I'll be very curious to hear about this also. We have the same (or at least
similar) issue. It *seems* that if no one is logged on at the console, RDP
performance is horrible. But if anyone, administrator or otherwise, has
logged on to the console, its great. ~weird

Others in the past have posted this... The concensus (at the time)
was that the terminal service application was leaking memory... I
think installing SP1 solved this problem for many people back then...

Do you have any application running while this happen, any non-MS driver
installed? I like to reproduce this condition to track down the issue.

The following post was by Scott

I've got it!! Call Microsoft (if you have Premiere support) - Q811080
fixes this! I was getting this at least twice a week (if not more),
but after getting the fix (which is NOT available on the site), all of
the issues have gone away.

It has solved the problem for myself and my office mate. See thread "Remote
Windows XP Freezes" in this newsgroup - 1/30/2004.
