I had configured the host computer in the office with a
dsl connection to have ICS. Its OS is windows xp
professional. I also configured it to receive incoming
connection through dial-up modem from my home laptop with
OS windows xp home edition.

The laptop can connect to the host computer, but, there
is no internet connectivity which is the very purpose in
my configuring the host to receive incoming connection -
the home laptop to have internet access through the
internet connection of the office. But, reading the Help
and Support Center of Windows XP, it say that ICS cannot
be enabled on incoming connections.

So, I asked.
1. Is there an update of windows xp so that ICS can
be enabled for remote client?

2. If this cannot be possible in windows XP, is
there other solution that can be applied? any third party
software that you can suggest?

George,

I haven't done this in a long time, so let's hope somebody else
gives some much more detailed advice soon.

Meanwhile a few remarks concerning the little I know.

You don't want to enable ICS on the dial-in connection. ICS only
has to be enabled on the connection going to the Internet, i.e.
the DSL connection in your case.

I guess that your problem only lies in some improper
configuration of the dial-in connection. Check those settings. I
vaguely remember that there are settings where you can allow
access to the entire network, which should include the Internet.
Maybe that setting is now set to only allow access to the
dial-in host computer. Can you actually access the host computer
through the dial-in connection?
