Reinstalled XP Pro, but cannot access old profile

A virus infected my daughters notebook, circumventing the virus software, and
XP Pro was reinstalled, but the tech told me that he could not access the old
profile to retrieve her pictures and word documents for school. Normally, he
is able to copy the profile to the new profile. I tried to access it, but I
get an "Access denied" message. What can I do?

I don't know what's wrong with your tech, but you should probably look for
another one.

If her stuff is still there, then the tech could not have done a clean
install. I wonder if your computer really is malware/virus free based on
what you've written about the tech's competence.

To get her data, take ownership of the old account's files from the new user
account.

1) As Make said, find a new "tech" the next time you need assistance.

2) Take ownership of the files and copy them to the new profile. If you
hadn't encrypted the data files (which could not have been done with
WinXP Home), you may be facing nothing more than a simple permissions
issue. Have you tried taking ownership of the old folders?
