Using XP Pro but doesn't seem to be an XP Registry group.
Received the following to hopefully fix a floppy problem.

"Try this solution for your Floppy drive problems
I actually found a solution from Microsoft. To resolve the problem I had
to use regedit to open the registry look for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
{4D36E980-E32511CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. Delete the
UpperFilters (and LowerFilters if any) Restart PC and all
is well with my floppy drive"

There are 24 sub folders all with that same number, some of them have sub
sub folders! How do I find and delete these filters whatever they are?

Do you have a reference for the knowledge-base article where you found that
information?

Silly me, there IS only one sub folder, not 24, but I still don't know about
these filters?

Only one of them will have
"Class"="DiskDrive" and "UpperFilters"/"LowerFilters"

Please post the KBA number though as I do not recall this
recomendation for Floppy Drive devices.

Don't have a KB #, the advice was passed on to me. This:
http://tinyurl.com/llkb
describes the problem I'm trying to fix. Many people are having it, MS are
aware of it but seem unwilling or unable to fix it! Could it be they're
trying to force out the floppy by making it unreliable in XP?

Your trouble is a W98 formated 1.44 MB diskette cannot be Disk Copy'd
in XP right? And/or formatted (1.44)?

That's sad as this was an issue in NT4 IIRC too. I have nothing
additional on this topic right now and don't use XP.
I'll try to keep an eye out though. Did you try DISKCOPY.COM at a
cmd prompt too? As you know the boot sector is different under
W9x/NTx format.

Or is it the multi-mode OEM FDDrive and drivers? FDDs are cheap. If
this is the case, replace it and run with the standard Windows
drivers.
