Recycle Bin Mystery

Suddenly, my recycle bin shows as full, but when I open it, it appears
empty.
When I click to empty, it reports that it contains some 16 files which
cannot be deleted.
My folder options are set to show hidden and operating system files.
What's going on?

[[No files may appear in the Recycle Bin if the files in the Recycled folder
are damaged.]]

Run Error Checking. Reboot. Try to empty the Recycle Bin again.

Error Checking (chkdsk.exe).
1. In My Computer or Windows Explorer, right-click the drive you want to
check, and then click Properties.
2. On the Tools tab, click Check Now.
3. Select both of these:

o Automatically fix file system errors
o Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors

You have to reboot for Error-checking to run.

For a look at the chkdisk log.
Open the Event Viewer...
Start | Run | Type: eventvwr | OK
Look in Application | Listed as Information |
Event ID: 1001
Source: Winlogon

The optional quick fix is: Delete any file (just to make sure there's
something in the bin).

Then, with the Recycle Bin CLOSED, right click the Recycle Bin desktop icon,
select: Empty Recycle Bin, and when the Confirm File Delete dialog box comes
up, click the OK button. Then reboot your system. After doing the above, any
deleted files should now list correctly in the Recycle Bin.

Find or create a junk file and delete it. It will usually show up in the
recycle bin. Then empty the recycle bin. I have found that this will
frequently fix the problem of an erroneous full indication.
