recovering focus when a modal external app crashes

Hi,
I'm having the following issue: I have a windows forms application that
launches an external windows app that is set to modal to my main window.
Modality works as expected, but if I kill the external app from the task
manager, my main window never gets the focus back.
I've tried different things like:
mainWindow.Focus();
mainWindow.TopMost = true;

etc with no success....
Does anyone know how can I make my main window regain focus after the modal
app terminates abnormally?
