You put your cd original to your computer..and restart again until C
booting.
After that DOS will notice you for format and partitions your HD. Afte
that you can partition like you want and install XP in your computer

Like current pc came with vista & now you'd like to install xp with cds from
other pc...If this is the case, youre not going to be able to with a xp cd
thats
mfg for another pc.Reason being, the cd is configured with other pcs hardware,
the conflict will not go thru.Youre only option, purchase a retail version
of xp.

I recently put the HD from a broken advent into a HP with a u/s HD and on
boot it simply said the memory configuration had changed since last boot up
and continued with a new install with all the correct drivers etc. it gave
the choice of saving the 'my documents etc.' or a 'destructive' install,
e.g. reformat C: drive and install. This was a HD with the OS on the drive,
where you had to make your own restore disks when you got the laptop. (a
common thing now it seems). The only difference was the computer had a
Advent desktop wallpaper on boot up, easily changed.
I imagine, though not certain, the restore disk would have the same effect
