You ask a tricky question (you're getting into volume licensing versus OEM
licensing). To stay truly legal, and avoid future problems, use a program
like Sysprep when getting ready to place the image on your new machines. Or,
you can change the serial key after you have already ghosted the machines.
Search the newsgroups on how to change the serial key post-install (usually
found under the heading - "Serial number error when installing XP SP1").
Cloned systems are an issue in NT. Any given NT system needs a unique SID
(security ID). Admins would have to use a program like sysprep, or
Ghostwalker, to remove the current SIDs, NetBIOS machine name, etc., and
generate new, unique ones so the system wouldn't fail when placed on the
network.
Since you have to run a sysprep-type tool anyway... there are a few that, I
believe, will allow you to enter a new serial number before imaging a
machine. Sysprep is the only one supported by Microsoft. Search the sysprep
documentation for how to do this.
Post back if you need additional help.
Good luck!
